Can Overblog Become a True Social Hub for Individuals and Businesses?

Can Overblog Become a True Social Hub for Individuals and Businesses?

While most are celebrating their respective holiday, I'm going to be testing out Overblog. At first glance, it appears to be a very complex way to feed your social media and blog posts into a single venue. This has been tried in the past but so far none of the other services have impressed me enough to make me want to stick around.

Overblog may be different.

I explored the site and the features a few months back and liked what I saw, but I had trouble with setting up my domain so I gave up. Turns out there is a minor error (take note if you're listening, Overblog) in the instructions. You'll see below that they included a period within the quote area of what you're supposed to copy and paste as your C-Name. Now, to most, this won't be a problem. I may be alone in this, but I missed it and as a result was never able to make it work. Thankfully, I gave it another shot.

Now that I'm here, I am playing around with themes, plugging in appropriate feeds, and testing out the direct blog posting feature (what you're reading right now). If all go wells, I'll continue to see how it does in search, how it appears on the various social sites, and determine whether this can be a valuable tool for both businesses and individuals who are heavily into social media.

Wish me luck! I'm hopeful that I'll be able to recommend this service to others.

Actually I was hearing about Overblog some few months back, introduced by one of my friends! I was totally flattened by seeing the features and specialties of overblog site! After that I think how to use overblog for promoting my business and now I created an overblog site for marketing my business products!

Actually it's not a typo, it's how a FQDN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fully_qualified_domain_name) is to be written.

In a DNS zone, if you do not end a name with a dot, then it is expanded by the name of the zone. For example, in the zone mydomain.com., if you declare a CNAME vip.over-blog.com (without trailing dot) you're in fact designating vip.over-blog.com.mydomain.com.

Give it a try, type http://www.google.com./ in your browser, and you'll discover that it works and that typing this URL without the trailing dot is just a shortcut offered by your operating system, but not the normal way to designate www.google.com. in the DNS grammar.

Regards,

Lionel

It may work when you type an address into the address bar on a browser, Lionel, but it doesn't work in the CNAME redirect. I know because it didn't work when I tried it and did work when I removed the period.

The filters are great (full disclosure: I consult for Overblog), and I have a page set up as a subdomain on my website. Totally rocks. (And I'll make sure they're aware of the typo in the directions).
